Pirelli recently launched the Cinturato Winter 3, a high-performance winter tyre designed for passenger cars and crossovers, that offers improved safety and control in winter conditions.
When it comes to snowy conditions, the tyre, which was tested by independent bodies Dekra1 and TÜV2, ranked the tyre first on snow for braking, traction and handling, giving it the TÜV Premium Quality Mark. It also tops the charts for aquaplaning resistance and handling on wet surfaces, with an A-B classification on the European label for wet grip across the entire range3.
When it comes to rolling noise emissions, the tyre’s acoustic comfort is also guaranteed, as confirmed by the European label. At the same time the tread pattern ensures lasting performance and higher mileage compared to the previous generation of tyre.
The central zig-zag channel improves water evacuation in the tread pattern, whilst the optimised sipes and Snow Keeper Teeth on the blocks trap snow for improved snow-on-snow grip, without affecting the tyre’s wet performance.
The compound was developed from experience gained with the P Zero Winter 2, which is an ultra-high performance winter tyre and winner of several comparative tests. The Dual-Core Polymer in the tyre features a dual-mode structure that increases grip in different conditions. It provides high mobility at low temperatures and snow adhesion without compromising grip on wet or dry surfaces combined with superb wear resistance that helps extend the life of the tyre.
Virtual development was used to significantly reduce the use of physical prototypes through increasingly sophisticated simulation of all the variables, producing more precise results and helping to minimise development times.
These same virtualization techniques were also used in material development to speed up the identification of the best material combinations for new compounds that gave more precise results and made the whole process more efficient.
The Cinturato Winter 3 was the first tyre from Pirelli to benefit from the most recent Indoor facility which allows for the replication of winter temperatures, conditions and surfaces.

The tyre range covers sizes from 16 to 20 inches and also features technologies such as Elect for electric and plug-in hybrid cars.
