Lamborghini Choose Bridgestone For Huracán STO Supercar

Lamborghini has announced that their latest supercar, the brand-new Huracán STO, will be shod with Bridgestone tyres.

Available next year, as one of a new supercar set, Bridgestone has developed a tailor-made Potenza tyre for the Huracán STO, which has been engineered as a high-performance tyre capable of maximising the Huracán STO’s traction, handling, control and overall performance extremes.

The Potenza tyre has been developed in conjunction with Lamborghini, and one of the keys to the tyre’s success in maximizing the supersports car’s performance, is the combination of the pattern and cavity design combined with the use of the latest state of the art technologies. The new tyre is able to apply an asymmetric tread design for enhanced steering response and cornering stability, as well as an internal crown structure that distributes footprint pressure evenly when cornering on tarmac. Combine these features with the newly developed tread compound that help to enhance the overall grip, and you have a car that brings track-level performance and adhesion to the road.

Trying to develop a new tyre with all the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, was somewhat challenging, however, Bridgestone’s capabilities in virtual tyre development proved crucial to its Potenza tyres, allowing the company to achieve outstanding performance within the timeframe they had to work in. Bridgestone were therefore able to test several combinations in its virtual environment, integrating tyre behaviour in the vehicle’s system to find the perfect match for Lamborghini in a virtual driving simulator. This actually turned out to be more efficient and reduced the environmental impact.

Production of the new Lamborghini Huracán STO will begin at the beginning of 2021. Bridgestone will also be providing a track-oriented, road-homologated version of the Potenza tyre, as well as the road-going tyre, that applies “race” technologies to maximize the vehicle’s track performance, particularly in dry conditions.

Steven De Bock, VP Consumer Replacement and OE at Bridgestone EMIA commented:

“It’s been a pleasure for our team to work so closely with Lamborghini for the first time, and on such an exciting project. The Huracán STO is an incredible piece of engineering that deserves a custom tyre that can fulfill its full potential. I can proudly say that Bridgestone has delivered such a high-performance tyre. It has been fantastic for the team to have worked on a project that is at the forefront of technology in so many ways.”
