The 11th annual Art of Motoring Exhibition took place recently in the Iconic Images Gallery in Waterloo Place just a stone’s throw from The Royal Automobile’s clubhouse in Pall Mall, the third year the exhibition has been held here.

This year’s exhibition brought together the works of over 30 well-known and up and coming motoring artists and sculptors and was open to the public from Wednesday 29th October to Saturday 1st November, making these beautiful pieces of art more accessible to the general public in what has become Europe’s leading curated automotive art exhibition.

Once again, this year’s Art of Motoring Exhibition was organised and curated by Andrew Marriott of Pitlane Productions and Rupert Whyte of Historic Car Art in association with The Royal Automobile Club, with all the pieces of art available to buy either at the exhibition or online.

Regular exhibitors who exhibited at last year’s exhibition included former Swedish Formula One and Le Mans winner Stefan Johansson, Anna-Louise Felstead, Tim Layzell, John Ketchell, Paul Howse, sculptor Jonny Ambrose, Simon Britnell, Kevin McNicholas, Ana Herrero, Terence Ross and Richard Neergaard. It was also good to see talented automotive designer and artist Harry Gravett exhibiting once again this year after his debut two years ago.

New to the exhibition this year was Nicholas Watts, who, much like me, spent some of his childhood near Brands Hatch in Kent which influenced his passion for motorsport. He has been painting professionally for over two decades now, creating a wide variety of automotive artwork as well as diversifying into aviation. In addition, he likes to enhance his art by requesting any drivers and other relevant persons autograph his artwork and limited edition prints.

Terence Ross, who exhibited here for the first time last year, studied at London College of printing and the Royal College of Art before spending 25 years as an art director and creative director at some of London’s leading ad agencies. He has worked full time since then as a professional automotive artist and has exhibited at the RA, Goodwood and Retromobile as well as numerous smaller galleries.

Artists Tim Layzell, Martin Tomlinson and John Ketchell have been exhibiting their artwork every single year, along with a number of others who have been at most of the previous 11 exhibitions.

I also always like Simon Britnell’s unique style of painting and love the yellow Porsche 911S Targa and Lamborghini Urraco he showcased at this year’s exhibition.

Next year’s Art of Motoring Exhibition is provisionally booked at the Iconic Images Gallery for the fourth year running, from Wednesday 28th to Saturday 31st October 2026. For more information, please visit: www.theartofmotoring.co.uk.
