Amalgam 1:8 Scale Model of New McLaren W1

Amalgam McLaren W1

Amalgam Collection has unveiled its 1:8 scale model of the new McLaren W1, a definitive handcrafted replica that has been developed over 3,000 hours in direct collaboration with McLaren Automotive in Woking.

The model measures over 57cm (22 inches) in length and takes over 300 hours of meticulous hand assembly and finishing by the artisans at Amalgam in Bristol to build. The car is created using the original CAD designs, paint codes and material specifications that have been supplied by McLaren.

The final model comes with working scissor doors, an operational remote-control rear wing and a fully detailed interior along with aerodynamic surfaces. This replica 1:8 scale W1 captures the pure essence of McLaren’s next-generation hypercar.

Production of the full-scale W1 is limited to only 399 examples worldwide, costing around £2 million. The 1:8 scale model, however, gives you the opportunity to preserve McLaren’s precise build specification in permanent, perfectly executed form.

These exact replicas of the car are tangible artefacts that can enhance narrative, authenticity and ultimately, the long-term value of the overall investment of owning the real thing.

Joining the iconic McLaren F1 and the hybrid-era McLaren P1, the W1 becomes another of the brand’s exclusive lineage, representing not only technological milestones but also significant long-term investments.

The importance of provenance and originality has grown in importance as values of the F1 and P1 have strengthened over time. As a result, today’s collectors are viewing exact 1:8 scale replicas as part of a vehicle’s documented history.

Engineered directly from McLaren’s digital design data for absolute dimensional accuracy, each 1:8 scale W1 has a paint finish that is matched precisely to factory standards, while the car’s interior materials and exposed carbon fibre textures are reproduced to the same exacting standards.

There are two commissioning options available. Firstly, the Launch specification, finished in the colour Papaya Spark in which the W1 was unveiled on 6th October 2024 and is limited to just 199 pieces, priced from £14,995. And secondly, the Bespoke, ‘Tailor Made’ owner commission which is built to replicate an individual owner’s exact vehicle configuration using factory build sheets that are supplied directly from McLaren, with prices starting from £20,995.

Sandy Copeman, Founder of Amalgam Collection, comments:

“Both the P1 and F1 have become great investments for collectors, and what we are finding is that having an exact 1:8 scale model which replicates the car becomes part of that car’s history and is now just as important as having the service history, original build specification documentation or even the luggage set, in terms of maximising the value of the car and investment for the owner. In recent times, Amalgam models are becoming alternative investments for collectors of cars and artwork due to them holding their value.”

You can order both the launch specification and Tailor Made commission models directly from Amalgam Collection or through the McLaren dealer network. For more information, please visit: www.amalgamcollection.com.
