Italian sports car maker De Tomaso is back and celebrated its 60th anniversary at last weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed by revealing the brand-new eye catching P72 supercar. This carbon fibre bodied car certainly looks stunning and got heads turning this last weekend at Goodwood.
De Tomaso’s chairman Norman Choi is the Hong Kong businessman behind the Apollo Intensa Emozione, a GT1 race car inspired V12 supercar that is currently being built in Germany for just ten extremely wealthy car collectors.
The P72’s interior is luxurious to say the least and almost borders on the exotic with its highly polished exposed copper gearbox levers and exposed dials – and yes it has a manual transmission – none of this modern paddle stuff and dual clutches that you see in today’s supercars. This is designed to be a purist’s car, harking back to those classic retro sports cars with analogue dials and none of this modern touch screen this and plug in that. At least you shouldn’t be able to hack into it!
We have yet to hear more from De Tomaso about the technical spec of this mid-engined car, but its history of developing superb V8s might lead us to believe that a new V8 may be in store for the P72.
There are rumours that one of these gorgeous looking cars will set you back around the £650,000 mark, we’ll have to wait and see. But we do know that only 72 will be built, so they will very quickly become sought after collector’s items.
We think the new De Tomaso P72 is beautiful from every angle, but you can make up your own mind by taking a look at this selection of photographs we took at Goodwood at the weekend.
