Limited Edition Suzuki GSX-R1000R Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Suzuki is celebrating the company’s 100th anniversary with a special limited edition GSX-R1000R, which will be going on sale in the UK next month with a RRP of £16,999.

The GSX-R1000R will be limited to only 100 units here in the UK and will have the same retro-inspired livery as the GSX-RR MotoGP machine, with the traditional blue and slate silver colour scheme which pays homage to Suzuki’s early Grand Prix motorbikes of the 1960s.

This year marks 100 years since the establishment of the Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. Suzuki began the production of motorcycles back in 1952 with the launch of the Power Free, and two years later changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. Since the fifties the company has gone on to produce some of the most iconic motorcycles of the 20th and 21st century, which includes the complete GSX-R series, and in particular the 1985 GSX-R750F and the 2001 GSX-R1000 K1, as well as the GT750, GSX1100S Katana and RGV250, and of course the legendary Hayabusa.

The GSX-R has won races and championships in the UK, the USA and Australia, as well as the Senior TT on the Isle of Man, and most recently, three victories at the Silverstone British Superbike round this month. This special bike shares more than just paint with the GP racer. It has the same variable valve timing system to boost both torque and peak power and comes equipped with a range of advanced rider technology, including a new Motion Track Brake System, Motion Track Traction Control System, Launch Control, a Bi-Directional Quick Shift System and the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector. Weighing just 203kg and with a 1000cc engine that gives out 202 PS and 117.60 Nm of torque, this is an immensely powerful machine.

The bike is fitted with full LCD instrumentation making the dash brighter and easier to read. It incorporates S-DMS mode and Motion Track TCS level indicators as well as a fuel gauge and readouts showing instantaneous or average fuel consumption, ambient temperature, freeze indicator and service reminders.

Jonathan Martin, Suzuki GB’s head of motorcycles, said, “With just 100 of these bikes available in the UK this is a unique opportunity to own and be a part of Suzuki history. The GSX-R range, and the 1000 in particular, has long been the flagship range of sportsbikes with an illustrious history both on road and on the racetrack. To mark 100 years of our Suzuki company it was only fitting to adopt the retro-inspired livery of bikes that have achieved and contributed so much to our history.”
