When it comes to putting a 4×4 vehicle through its paces, there is no better place than the snow and ice. Therefore, Jeep decided to take their new Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe on an epic 3,800km road test from the Mirafiori plant in Turin in Italy to the challenging Proving Ground in Arjeplog in Swedish Lapland.
Over a period of a week, a selection of the first EMEA region Jeep plug-in hybrid electric models were put through their paces in harsh real-world scenarios, that customers themselves may very well find themselves in with their Jeeps, as the vehicles’ advanced plug-in hybrid systems were tested to their limits and beyond in the freezing and unforgiving conditions.
The new Renegade 4XE is equipped with plug-in technology combined with superb 4×4 of-road performance as well as being a fuel-efficient everyday vehicle.
The Jeep’s internal combustion engine and electric motor give a combined 240 hp, which means it will accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 7.3 seconds and has a range of around 30 miles when driven in pure electric mode.
The Renegade 4xe comes equipped with three driving modes. Hybrid for combined state-of-the-art performance, Electric to reduce emissions when needed and eSave, which will recharge and preserve the level of the vehicle’s battery.
The Selec-Terrain includes a new Sport mode which increases the throttle performance and steering response and when it comes to charging the Renegade 4xe, you can either charge it at home with a Wallbox available from Mopar or at any public charging station.
As with all Jeep SUVs, the new Renegade and Compass 4xe have been subjected to a wide range of complex processes and tests to guarantee each vehicle’s quality, safety, reliability and comfort in all conditions imaginable.
