Tuscan based Real Italian Cars, specialists in restoring and reimagining the iconic Fiat 500, recently unveiled its latest model, an all-electric Fiat 500 at the Bologna Auto Moto d’Epoca show.
Real Italian Cars collaborated with a top European university to produce this special all-electric edition, blending the charm of a vintage classic with cutting-edge technology. The new model is available in two timeless styles: the traditional bodied Fiat 500 shape and the fun Jolly convertible.
The performance of the electric Fiat 500 surpasses the original in every way, from speed to endurance. At its heart is a 31.5-kW electric motor based on a reliable Japanese powertrain, giving this electric classic a driving range of around 250 kilometres on a single charge. The car can accelerate from 0 to 80 kph in just six seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 110 kph. The car also charges quickly when using a supercharger, taking only 40 minutes to be fully charged.
The transformation doesn’t stop at the powertrain. Real Italian Cars made significant upgrades to accommodate the new electric motor, including enhanced braking, suspension and electrical systems. The car also has a custom interior that respects the original Fiat 500’s cosy charm.
The electric version has a dry weight of under 1,000 kilograms, preserving the classic car’s nimble handling. The reimagined Fiat 500 even offers dual luggage compartments, with one up front and another where the original engine used to be. This makes it an ideal mode of transport for urban drivers in cities with strict emissions regulations.
Real Italian Cars was founded just over a year ago by three friends. Despite being in existence for such short time, the firm has already delivered close to 50 restored classics and is now setting its sights on an electric future. Order books officially opened at the Bologna show, with first deliveries expected next summer. Each car can be customised and tailored with numerous Italian-inspired options to meet clients’ individual tastes.
Experienced car journalist Anthony Peacock, who also writes for us here, is one of the co-founders, and commented:
“The electric Fiat 500 takes the unparalleled elegance of traditional Italian design but adds reliability, performance and ecological awareness. The result is a classic car that can truly be enjoyed every day: dependable, useful and stylish transport that is as relevant to the modern age as it was when new back in 1957.”
Starting prices for the Real Italian Cars electric Fiat 500 begin at €35,000 for the traditional model and €50,000 for the open top Jolly. Each vehicle comes with a full three-year guarantee and can be shipped worldwide, bringing the charm of Italian motoring to drivers everywhere.
