BMW M have selected the Pirelli P Zero Elect for the new BMW i4 M50, BMW’s first fully electric car developed by the brand’s high-performance division, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
This new fully electric zero-emission coupé joins a number of other BMW M cars for which Pirelli has developed bespoke original equipment tyres.
The BMW i4 M50 is the sporting division’s first total electric car with two engines driving all four wheels, giving it a total power output of 544CV (400kW). This gives the car the ability to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.9 seconds, making it no slouch!
Pirelli has developed P Zero tyres with Elect technology so that the all-electric BMW i4 M50 is able to handle its high performance with ease and meet the unique demands that are common to all electric vehicles.
The new tyre is recognisable from the specific markings on the sidewall with a star that identifies all bespoke BMW original equipment tyres and the Elect logo which indicates that the tyre has been specially developed to complement the characteristics of BEV or plug-in hybrid vehicles. This means that the tyres are able to handle the instant torque, increased weight from the batteries and eliminating as much road noise as possible due to the quiet ride.
The structure of the tyre has been reinforced to support the car’s weight and deliver maximum performance even during hard cornering, and the special high-grip compound has also been designed to give maximum grip as well as precise and efficient handling.
With over 150 years of history and over 110 years of competition, Pirelli has been able to create tailor-made tyres for some of the most iconic and prestigious performance brands in the world, improving the driving experience and sharpening vehicle dynamics. Pirelli’s association with BMW M over the years has produced tyres for the BMW X3 M and X6 M SUVs, both of which are homologated with P Zero tyres for summer and Scorpion Winter tyres for icy conditions. Pirelli also equips the BMW 8 Series with P Zero tyres and the sporty M5 CS exclusively with P Zero Corsa, for use on both the road and race track.
