Ahead of this weekend’s final race of the season at Abu Dhabi, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team has put together a touching farewell to Lewis Hamilton following a remarkable 245 races, 84 wins, 78 pole positions, 153 podium finishes, eight World Constructors’ Championships and six World Drivers’ Championships.
Lewis’ career has so far been powered solely by Mercedes-Benz, covering over 20,000 racing laps and 100,000 racing kilometres and this weekend marks the closing chapter in what has been the longest and most successful team-driver partnership in Formula One’s history and a relationship with Mercedes that began 26 years ago.
However, saying farewell after such a journey together is much more than just marking records and statistics. For the Mercedes team it’s about paying tribute to a remarkable driver and individual, recognising someone who has catalysed and led change in Formula One.
With that in mind, the team has therefore worked with London-based agency AMV BBDO to create a global campaign that pays tribute to Lewis Hamilton’s remarkable record, capturing both the highs and lows of their 12 seasons together.
They have called it ‘Every Dream Needs a Team’ that looks at the hopes ad dreams of a young Lewis Hamilton setting his sights on Formula One. The campaign also looks at the aspirations of the next generation he has inspired over the years. It looks at the sport as a place where people can achieve their own hopes and dreams and speaks to the essential truth of a sport that Lewis has always recognised – that we win, and we lose, together and that success is a collective endeavour.
At the centre of the campaign is a film produced by prettybird and directed by Grammy Award winner Melina Matsoukas which you can watch below.
The film features some of the young people for whom Lewis has been an inspirational figure, including the next generation of Mercedes F1 racers along with some iconic archives from Lewis’s time with the team, including his own early career.
As well this tribute film there will also be an outdoor campaign featuring iconic photography which can be seen here, of Lewis and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team that will light up landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, here in the UK and the United States, including places like Times Square.
Lewis Hamilton has achieved every possible dream with Mercedes that he could have ever imagined as a young racer. However, racing in red is something you of course can’t do with the Silver Arrows. And so, Lewis heads to Maranello and Ferrari with the deepest gratitude and warmest of wishes from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team to begin the next chapter of his career in Formula One.
