The well-known and reputable ‘Tyre Reviews’ platform has ranked the new Pirelli P Zero in first place in a comparative test of Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyres, confirming the new tyre’s focus on performance and safety as a result of its improved handling and shorter braking distances. The new P Zero also stood out for its comfort giving an extremely smooth and quiet driving experience.
The Pirelli P Zero PZ5 is designed to take on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, Continental SportContact 7, Bridgestone Potenza Sport and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 amongst others. To find out whether the latest UUHP summer tyre on the market can up the game in both handling and grip, it was tested against all the tyres mentioned above along with the Falken Azenis FK520 and a budget tyre.
All seven sets of tyres were put through dry and wet testing in real-world conditions, taking into account the noise, comfort and rolling resistance levels of each set of tyres.
The P Zero stood out for its grip in dry and wet conditions, as well as aquaplaning resistance, comfort and low noise levels. The results highlighted the tyre’s excellent balance between safety and performance which are two defining characteristics of the new tyre.
When it came to stability, balance, grip and outstanding braking on dry surfaces, the P Zero excelled, providing better performance than its competitors. The new tyre also came first in wet braking tests and was ranked among the top performers in aquaplaning tests, providing excellent grip while cornering.
The significant improvements of this fifth generation of the P Zero have been achieved through innovative development technologies based on artificial intelligence systems and proprietary algorithms developed by Pirelli. Pirelli’s R&D engineers focused on the tyre’s structure and tread pattern, rethinking the grooves and contact patch to improve braking and wear rate which will result in delivering consistent performance throughout the tyre’s life.
