Lamborghini SC63 Daytona 24 Hours Debut

Lamborghini SC63 at Daytona

This weekend is the season opening 24 Hours at Daytona and Lamborghini Squadra Corse will be entering the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as an official factory team for the very first time.

This will be the second season of racing for Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse and the Lamborghini SC63, having made its debut in both the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championships last year.

This year, however, Squadra Corse has decided to concentrate its efforts on just the Michelin Endurance Cup rounds of the North American series with its first full campaign in the Endurance Cup and highly experienced Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and Edoardo Mortara for the opening round of the championship at Daytona.

Both Mirko Bortolotti and Daniil Kvyat move over from the WEC programme and will compete in all five rounds of the IMSA Endurance Cup season at the wheel of the #63 Lamborghini SC63.

Romain Grosjean returns to Lamborghini to join the team following a number of impressive drives in 2024. The three drivers will benefit from the expertise of Edoardo Mortara at Daytona, before the Swiss driver moves to a GT3 drive with Lamborghini for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Lamborghini will also be competing a full season of IMSA in the GTD Pro class with Canadian Pfaff Motorsports joining as a factory-supported team in both the Sprint and Endurance Cup championship. Full season drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli will be joined by Lamborghini factory driver Jordan Pepper for Daytona. Former IndyCar Series and longtime Pfaff Motorsport driver James Hinchcliffe will be the Endurance Cup co-driver.

Wayne Taylor Racing returns for another full season in GTD, while Lamborghini Young Professional driver Danny Formal leads the team’s efforts alongside 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals winner Trent Hindman. Graham Doyle will drive for the five Endurance Cup rounds, while last year’s full-season driver Kyle Marcelli will race at Daytona.

In addition, Forte Racing will field a full-season entry of Misha Goikhberg and experienced driver Mario Farnbacher along with Franck Perera contesting the Endurance rounds. NASCAR veteran Parker Kligerman will be joining the team this weekend at Daytona.

Lamborghini has a strong record in the Daytona 24 Hours, having won the event in three successive years between 2018 and 2020 and are therefore hoping for a good result this weekend.

The season opening race weekend begins at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday with the first free practice session before qualifying. That is then followed by FP2 on Thursday evening with the third and final practice held on Friday morning before the actual race on Saturday 25th January which gets underway at 13:40 EST.
