The 2025 Brussels Motor Show was the venue for Mazda’s unveiling of the all-new Mazda6e, the Japanese manufacturer’s fast-charging 5-door hatchback and newest fully electric addition to Mazda’s vehicle range.
There are two powertrain options depending on your driving preferences. The standard Mazda6e is fitted with a 68.8 kWh battery that gives the car a range of up to 479 km (297 miles). It takes just 22 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% with 200 kW DC charging and you can add an impressive 235 km (146 miles) of range in only 15 minutes. The car’s electric motor delivers 190 kW (258 PS) which will power it to 62mph in just 7.6 seconds.
If you are someone who drives long distances, then the 80 kWh battery of the Mazda6e Long Range will give you a range of up to 552 km (342 miles) and has a power output of 180 kW (245 PS). Both configurations deliver 320 Nm of torque, giving smooth acceleration and responsive rear-wheel drive performance and a top speed of 175 km/h (108 mph).
This longer range 80kWh Mazda6e will charge from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes and as with the smaller battery version supports DC rapid charging.
To look at, the new Mazda6e has smooth, flowing lines and bold features. The low roofline and short-deck coupé silhouette give the car a sporty look while still retaining its functionality as a 5-door hatchback with a generous 330-litre boot and 70-litre front boot making it an extremely practical family car. Mazda call this next evolution of Mazda’s design philosophy: “Kodo: Soul of Motion”.
You will notice the rather distinctive design details such as a bold lighting signature, frameless doors and integrated handles, giving the car a seamless and modern appearance. The iconic four-cylinder light design and an electric spoiler at the rear are another dynamic touch. At the front the new glowing signature wing lights around the grille give the Mazda6e a rather unique face.
The Mazda6e sits on 19-inch wheels that features a sporty five-spoke design with flat black surfaces to make them more aerodynamic.
Spacious, smart and modern interior
Sitting inside the new Mazda6e and you will notice the simplicity of the cabin and amount of open space. There is generous legroom for both the front and rear passengers, while the panoramic sunroof lets in lots natural light. The surfaces are tactile and have a nice feel to them thank to the use of premium materials which help create a calm, focused ambience while at the same time the floating centre console and instrument panel help create the feeling of lightness.
There are two trim levels available: Takumi and Takumi Plus. Takumi models offer beige or black artificial leather, while Takumi Plus offers premium tan Nappa leather.
Fitted with a new driver-focused smart cockpit, there is a customisable 14.6” touchscreen, along with a 10.2” digital meter and a 50-inch5 Augmented Reality Head-Up Display giving the driver information such as speed and navigation. Fitted with advanced voice and gesture controls simplifies interactions with climate, navigation and media systems. There is also a high-quality 14-speaker SonyPRO® audio system.
Passenger safety
Mazda have paid particular attention to passenger safety with no less than nine airbags to protect the car’s occupants. Meanwhile, potential hazards can hopefully be avoided with Mazda’s Advanced Driving Assistance System with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure warning, traffic sign recognition plus a number of other functions.
For those of you who regularly ferry children around, the new Occupancy Monitoring System uses an interior camera to detect children in the rear seats, so you don’t accidentally leave them in the car unattended.
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, commented:
“The Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for, with a nod to the popularity of the Mazda6 it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles. And with the suspension, power steering and braking carefully calibrated by the team at Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to match European and UK preferences, I’m sure the Mazda6e will be an electric car that delivers the engaging driver experience you’d expect from Mazda.”
“In the UK we are facing some unique and complex challenges in the balance between EV legislation and consumer demand but at Mazda we will introduce new models and ensure our product range fits the pace of actual consumer demand in the UK with technologies that are amongst the best in the market. When it arrives in UK showrooms in 2026, the Mazda6e will be a fantastic and timely addition to our multi-solution approach that includes mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric offerings.”
With a mix of Japanese high quality, thoughtful design and cutting-edge technology, the all-new Mazda6e will be available to view in European dealer showrooms this coming summer and will arrive in UK showrooms in 2026.
